2009 - 60th Anniversary Celebrations

The Memorabilia Afternoon, held on
Saturday 16th May 2009 was a fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon, and was much enjoyed by everyone who attended.
The afternoon included interviews with a few of the choir's past conductors, a short concert of items selected by past conductors, a sing-along, and ended with a high tea.

 Tamworth Eisteddfod

Congratulations to the Choral Society on winning the Choral Championship in the recent Tamworth Eisteddfod! The pieces chosen were "Holy Holy Holy" and "Five Eyes" - two perfectly contrasting works. The singing on the day was excellent, with good attention to the conductor (thanks Catherine!), good diction, well in tune, and, especially with "Five Eyes" - a great sense of fun and drama!

The Choral Society also entered a small group, who took home 2nd prize in their class.

New Term

The new term starts on 1st June. The Choir will be practising a concert version of the Mikado, to be performed on 20th September at the Community Centre. All new members are very welcome for this special anniversary year.

Established in 1949, Tamworth Choral Society has a long unbroken history of singing for fun. We present an annual Spring Concert and a popular Christmas Carol concert, and have had much success at Eisteddfords over the years. We are also asked on many occasions to sing at other Community Events, for example - Carols in Bicentennial Park, ANZAC day services, and Gala Concerts for TRCM (Tamworth Regional Conservatorium of Music).

Over the years the choir has performed a variety of works such as Handel's Solomon and Messiah, Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, Mendelssohn's Elijah, Vivaldi's Gloria, Faure's Requiem and Bach's Cantata No. 4.

New members are always welcome. We meet on Monday evenings, from 7.15 to 9pm, at St Peter's Church, Cnr Vera & Kathleen Sts, Tamworth.

No experience is necessary - you don't need to read music, just be able to hold a tune! Both male and female voices are very welcome. Why not give it a go - being part of a mixed voice choir is both exhilarating and a great achievement - and you'll make friends to keep for a lifetime.
